Fighting for long-term fiscal health

This week I supported a oneyear extension of current Farm Bill programs.While a conventional 5-year reauthorization of the Farm Bill is preferable, many of these critical programs lapsed September 30th.The current lapse shouldn’t affect 2023 crops, but a one-year extension was necessary to prevent reverting back to pre-1930s farm policy as we begin 2024. I’m pleased Congress has acted to ensure American producers will have another year of certainty as they work to put food on our table and fuel in our cars – and now the Agriculture Committees in the House and Senate can finish their work on a new and improved Farm Bill without putting agriculture producers in an impossible position.

Bulldog One Act Team is SPVA Conference champs

Bridgeport took first place Monday on home stage during the Southern Platte Valley Association conference play production competition.Two thespians, Cassandra Hopwood and Hanna Berry, received All Conference actress awards. Also competing were Sutherland, Kimball, Hershey, North Platte St. Pats, Perkins County and Chase County schools.

Fourth grade classes visit Flowerfield

Flowerfield is a school in Banner County, Nebraska, that teaches kids what it was like in 1888. Before our class went to Flowerfield we had to prepare. First, we had to figure out what we were going to wear.The ladies had to wear dresses, but not your average dresses.The dresses were very vintage, plain in color, and long. Some also had flower prints.The gentlemen had to wear a long-sleeved button up shirt with a pair of blue jean pants.

WTC Honor Choir held in Bridgeport

Bridgeport Public School was the site of the Western Trails Conference Honor Choir on Monday, November 13. Select students from the seven conference area schools came to Bridgeport for the day and spent several hours rehearsing five pieces together, under the direction of Brad Ronne. Bridgeport had the most students selected for the choir, with twenty chosen to sing in the honor chorus.
