Veterans Day is an outstanding opportunity to recognize the men and women of our armed forces who have served our country. Through their courage and devotion to their duties, America’s veterans have helped keep the United States the greatest, freest nation on Earth. It is fitting we pause to give them a day of recognition; yet we owe them so much more. History, as well as current events, are constant reminders – we live in the land of the free because of the brave.

Rural health care system needs help at basic levels

Bridgeport Public Schools once again offered local veterans a chance to enjoy a meal and fellowship at the school on Friday, November 10, in the school gymnasium following the special program in the auditorium.

Two applications were accepted for the property manager position at the Morrill County Fairgrounds with Ryan Patterson on hand for the interview.The contracted position offers $1,000 per month and the position will answer to the fair board and report to the county commissioners quarterly.The job will start on December 1, 2023; it comes with no insurance or county benefits. Patterson willingly accepted the position.

Doane University held its 30th annual Fall Festival of Winds concert on Saturday afternoon, November 4, inside Heckman Auditorium in Crete. High school honor bands, including seven students from Bridgeport, joined forces with the Doane Concert Band to perform select pieces in front of a full audience.

Scottsbluff High School hosted their 40th annual Old West Choir Fest on Saturday, November 4, in the auditorium of the Bearcats. Old West brings together high school show choirs across the panhandle and northern Colorado to compete for Best of the Fest, an evening concert to show off the best talent.

Beverley Jean Zwiebel, age 76, of Rosholt, South Dakota, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at her home on Lake Traverse. Funeral services were held November 4, 2023, at at Bethania Lutheran Church in Rosholt, with Rev. Nancy Quatier officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Mt. Auburn Cemetery in Omaha, NE.
