County commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday morning where they approved the contract to provide dispatch services with the city of Bayard. Last updated in 2011, the new contract raised the cost to $1500 per month, up from $1000 monthly, paid yearly. Commissioners also approved the public transit drug and alcohol testing policy.

Platte Valley Bank of Bridgeport presented a $10,000 check to members of Bridgeport Public Schools on August 16th. Bridgeport Public Schools will be starting a pre-school program beginning next week, and are looking for donations to assist in building a playground for the preschoolers.

One of Bridgeport’s newest arrivals on the teaching circuit is Kylee Sterkel, formerly the high school administrative assistant at Bridgeport Public Schools.This year, Sterkel took a position teaching computers and personal finance.

Dale Patrick “Pat”Wright of Scottsbluff, NE, passed away August 16, 2023, at the Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, CO, at the age of 85. A son of Dale and Alberta Wright, Pat was born August 4, 1938, in Bridgeport, NE. He was united in marriage to Mildred Arnold of Imperial, NE, on September 5, 1959, at Council Bluffs, IA, and they were married 63 years.They had two children, Justin and Sonia.

Sidney Martin “Marty” Smith, 62, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023. His graveside service was held August 12, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the Redington Cemetery in Morrill County. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Marty’s honor be made in care of his family to be designated at a later time. Halley Ryan Craig, 32, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Alliance, Nebraska.

Bridgeport volleyball and football teams faced off in their own separate scrimmages on Friday night; volleyball first in the gym, followed by the football game under the blazing sun on the field. Both teams are fired up and ready to go for the year.

In May, 10 Nebraska State Patrol troopers went to Texas for two weeks to help with drone surveillance of the border with Mexico. Recently, 60 Nebraska National Guard members went to Texas for a month for a similar assignment.

This month, many Nebraska students will go back to school.
