Hold on, motorcycle helmets required until January 1, 2024

The Bridgeport Board of Education held their regular meeting on July 10th at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library. All board members were present along with administration and Ms.Vonnie Brown.There were four action items; the first was consideration to approve compensation packages for Principal Simmons and Principal Reynolds for the 2023-2024 school year. Each received a 3.5% pay increase which is in line with the certified staff increase. Principal Simmons’ salary will be $93,200 and Principal Reynolds’ salary will be $99,400. The second item was the approval of the 7-12 Student Handbook. The third item was approval of the K-6 Student Handbook. The fourth item was the approval of the Staff Handbook for the 2023-2024 school year.The following items were covered in the administrative reports: 1. IDEA grant application was complete.We have received $117,784.

The county commissioners heard many property tax protests on July 10th, with most decisions being made in favor of constituents.

Bridgeport band member, incoming senior Cassandra Hopwood, has recently returned from a sixteen-day tour of Europe encompassing five countries, playing her saxophone in concerts in England, France, Switzerland, Germany, and Austria. Hopwood travelled with the Nebraska Ambassadors of Music program. She had been hoping to go ever since her older brother went in 2015.

Joseph Bennett, shown here in a booking photo taken last year, was convicted of second-degree murder in Morrill County District Court Monday morning, July 3, at 10:30 a.m. Bennett was accused of shooting and killing his father, Rodney Bennett, following a family dispute at their shared home in Broadwater on Monday evening, Aug. 8, 2022.

Autobiography will have you thinking about life choices

Shane Brown and the Get Down band helped the residents of Skyview Care and Rehab of Bridgeport celebrate America’s Independence on Wednesday, June 28, with a concert prior to their fireworks show. Residents and their families enjoyed the evening together, dancing and singing along to their favorite local band after dinner was served. Many families attended the supper.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks for the Bridgeport Bomber senior and junior legion baseball teams. Both squads played multiple games against higher-class competition.
