This week, House Republicans took action to push back on proposals by President Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) effectively forcing consumers to drive only electric vehicles (EVs) by 2032.The EPA’s out-of-touch policies are unworkable for the Third District because of our winter weather and expansive driving distances. Furthermore, China, which holds 78 percent of the world’s EV battery cell manufacturing capacity, recently implemented export controls on raw EV battery materials. In the interest of consumer freedom and minimizing dependence on China, the federal government should reverse course on heavy handed EV mandates. 12/14/2023 03:00 AM

Bridgeport was one of two districts selected for the Nebraska ARTS Award
The Bridgeport Board of Education held their regular meeting on Monday, December 11th, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library. All board members were present with the exception of Jeff Pohl.The board approved, by a vote of 5-0, the consent agenda which included the approval of minutes, financial reports, bills and payroll. Consideration to approve the collective bargaining agreement with the BEA for the 2024-2025 school year was tabled. 12/14/2023 03:00 AM

Opal earns fourth at state
For the second year in a row, Bridgeport’s play production team took their one act all the way to the Johnny Carson Theatre in Norfolk, Nebraska, for the state competition. Ronald A. Garska, 82, of Bridgeport, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at the Morrill County Community Hospital in Bridgeport. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Bridgeport Church of Christ with Pastor Jonathan Seng officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. It is respectfully requested that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Ron’s honor be made in care of his family to be designated at a later time. Interment will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the Madison Square Cemetery near Taylor, NE, close to the farm/ranch he grew up on and where many other family members are laid to rest.
