For the first time since joining the conference, the Bridgeport basketball teams swept the championships of the South Platte Valley Association Tournament last weekend in North Platte.
The Leyton Lady Warriors and Warriors brought home second and third place spots at the Minuteman Activities Conference, held this past weekend at Bridgeport.
Bridgeport girls wrestled on Saturday, January 13, at the Gering Girls Invite, placing fifth out of eight teams, and Saturday, January 20, at Chadron.
The Bridgeport Board of Education held their regular meeting on January 11th at 7:00 p.m. in the high school library. All board members were present, by a vote of 6-0, the consent agenda which included the approval of minutes, financial reports, bills and payroll. Consideration to approve the collective bargaining agreement with the BEA for the 2024-2025 school year was tabled. Consideration to accept the resignation of Jared Dean effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.The board approved his resignation with a 6-0 vote.
The North Platte Natural Resource District (NRD) is now taking orders for 2024 conservation trees. Landowners are encouraged to place their orders as soon as possible since trees are sold on a first-come, firstserved basis. The district has 33 varieties of one to two-year-old bare-root trees and shrubs available plus 9 varieties of potted trees. Trees are sold in bundles of 10 per species. Bare-root trees are $1.10 each and potted trees are $2.20 each. NRD trees are not for resale.
Bridgeport and Bayard Volunteer Fire Departments battled a blaze in subzero temperatures on Sunday midday, when the home of Ashley Gardner on 4th Street went up in flames at Lakeview Trailer Court.

Back in action for the first time in 2024, the Bridgeport basketball teams earned wins this past week.
After a holiday break, the Leyton Warriors are back in action on the basketball court. Lady Warriors remain undefeated, winning their last three games, 56-48 over Perkins County, 52-39 over Paxton, and 43-39 over Hay Springs. Zaili Benish led all scoring.
