Spring heard with music

Bridgeport elementary students held their spring concert on Tuesday night, April 25, in the school auditorium before a large crowd. Each of the six classes stood up to sing three songs they had learned throughout the year, with the usual favorites showing up as part of the mix: kindergartners sang “What is in My Lunch Box?” first graders “Ants Go Marching,” and the second-grade stunner, “The Cat Came Back.”

Herman Ernest Hall was born September 28, 1930, in Bridgeport, Nebraska. He died April 4, 2023, in Ontario, Oregon. Herman was the first of five children born to Herman and Inez (Mitchell) Hall. He grew up on the farm north of Bridgeport and attended West District 6 School. He attended Bridgeport High School, graduating in 1949.

The March Consumer Price Index, a key inflation indicator, showed a five percent inflation rate, with overall food prices up 8.5 percent over March of last year. Since 2021, Americans’ wages have declined 3.7 percent, which partially explains why workforce participation rates are so low at 62.6 percent.This has a ripple effect across our economy, leaving hardworking families and small businesses in a difficult position. According to the National Federation of Independent Business’s Small Business Optimism Index, 43 percent of small business owners report having a hard time filling job openings, with overall optimism decreasing for the 15th consecutive month.
