District in need of substitute drivers

As the historic purchase of a portion of the fairgrounds becomes a reality, the Morrill County Fair Board is hoping to have blueprints drawn up and on display at this year’s county fair.The hope is to show the future plans of those seven acres, as was reported at Tuesday morning’s commissioner’s meeting. Moving towards that goal, commissioners signed an engagement letter with Settje Agri-Services & Engineering of Sidney to begin the blueprints.

Evelyn Kathleen (Baird) Bentley, 70, a woman full of love, joy, and laughter, passed the morning of April 28, 2023. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00 p.m. onThursday, May 4, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Bridgeport, with Pastor Ray Cook officiating. In honor of Evelyn’s wishes, this gathering will be a party to celebrate her life, not a funeral service; bright-colored attire is requested. Cremation has been held and there will be no visitation. Richard John Lockman, Sr., 84, of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023, at home. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff, with Pastor Rick Reisig officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Scottsbluff. A viewing will be held on hour prior to the funeral. As luck would have it, Ms. Jill Bartling, who taught 5th grade at Leyton schools last year and had a student recognized in the national publication Scholastic News magazine this past December, has done it again.This year in her new position as one of Bridgeport’s 5th grade teachers, Ms. Bartling had another student recognized in the publication, this time in the April edition and featuring Julia Basa.
