For the third straight year, the Bridgeport girls basketball team returned home with a trophy from the state tournament in Lincoln.The Lady Bulldogs earned a third-place finish in Class C-1, concluding their record-setting season with a final record of 26-1.The 26 wins tied the school record for most in a season. Last year’s team also totaled 26 wins.

Playing in a district championship for a sixth year in a row, the Bridgeport boys basketball team couldn’t overcome a big and veteran-led Howells-Dodge opponent in the D1-6 final on Monday evening in Lexington. The Jaguars put their size and experience to good use in pulling away for a 56-34 win to secure a berth into next week’s state tournament in Lincoln.The Bulldogs concluded their season with a final record of 16-10.

Robert Lee Muzquiz, 65, of Bridgeport, Nebraska, passed away unexpectedly in his home on February 27, 2023. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 5, from 3:00-6:00 p.m. at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel, with funeral services the following day, Monday, March 6, at 10:00 a.m. at Bridgeport Memorial Chapel with Father Tim Stoner officiating. Burial will be at Oregon Trail Memorial Cemetery. Casual attire is suggested for the services and the family would love it if you wear your favorite sports jersey. Memorials may be given to the Bridgeport Community Center and condolences for the Muzquiz family may be left at www.bridgeportmemorialchapel. com Robert was born on September 26, 1957, to Daniel and Lula (Camacho) Muzquiz in Bridgeport. He was the youngest of 8 siblings. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1977.

For a record-setting third consecutive year, the Bridgeport girls basketball team qualified for the Nebraska state tournament. The undefeated Bulldogs improved to 24-0 with a dominating 71-41 victory over Douglas County West in the Cl-2 district final last Friday in Kearney.
