Bridgeport Public Schools held their annual Junior High and High School Fall Band and Choir Concert on Tuesday, October 10, following the three-day weekend. The high school band started things off with a David Foster piece, “Big Circus March,” followed by “Tap Out,” a largely percussion piece featuring Grace Dean, Landon Dean, and Paige Amateis.They ended their portion of the concert with “The Incredibles,” by Michael Giacchino, and “Moai-Song of Ancient Giants,” by Michael Sweeney.

The Bridgeport Bulldogs extended their winning streak to five in a row with a 68-17 thumping of visiting Kimball on the gridiron last Friday night in Bridgeport.

The Bridgeport Lady Bulldogs ended the Western Trails conference tournament in third place behind first place Bayard team, and second place Gordon-Rushville. The tournament was held this year in Bayard on Thursday last week. Mitchell, Morrill, Kimball and Hemingford also took part in the ten-game play.

The Bridgeport football team capped off Homecoming week in style with a 70-24 victory over visiting Hemingford last Friday night. Scoring was fast and furious for the Bulldogs, who totaled a whopping 10 touchdowns in the game. Senior running back Peyton Abbott led the charge by tying a school record with seven touchdowns of his own. He rushed for six scores and caught another. Abbott ended the game rushing for a career-high 233 yards on just seven carries.

Bridgeport cross country runners hosted the annual Run at the Rocks Bridgeport Invite on Tuesday last week, with the varsity boys taking the top spot in the day’s 5K event. The Lady Bulldogs placed fourth overall behind Hemingford, Mullen, and Gordon-Rushville. Varsity runner Ron Varner was the sole top ten finish for the men’s division, with a 10th place spot.

The Leyton Warriors fell hard in the second half to Anselmo-Merna at the away game last Friday afternoon by a score of 68-12. While the maroon and gold started out well, scoring the first two quarters, they quickly crumbled after the break. No individual statistics were available as of press time.

The Bridgeport High School football team evened its season record at 2-2 with a 7020 road win over the Sutherland Sailors last Friday night.

The LeytonWarriors walloped the visiting Morrill Lions football team by a count of 60-8 in the non-league game in Warrior territory last Friday.With that win, Leyton upgraded its record to 1-2 on the season.They travel to Anselomo-Merna to face the Coyotes tomorrow. Both teams go into the game with a 1-2 record.
